Please vote in the Republican Primary on March 4, 2014!
I took office in 2007 with 3 campaign pledges:
1) Open Government
2) Fiscal Responsibility
3) Economic Growth and Development
To have a more open government, the Commissioners' Court has taken several steps. First, meetings of the Commissioner's Court were moved to the second and fourth Tuesday of each month to allow for the agenda to be posted each Monday in the Hillsboro Reporter. Moreover, the County now utilizes the internet to better communicate with citizens. Under my leadership the County uses it's website and social media to keep Hill County residents up to date on what their local government is doing.
In addition, the number of executive sessions of the Court have been reduced to allow for the public to be involved and aware of the activities of the Court. I believe the people’s business should be done in the open not in back rooms.
To keep my pledge of Fiscal responsibility in the first year of my term I proposed that the Commissioners Court cut in excess of one million dollars from the county budget and lower the tax rate. The Court has done both.
I have taken an active role in the writing of the County Budget so that with the help and hardwork of the County Auditor I am able to bring to the Commissioners Court each year, a document that reflects my commitment to fiscal responsibility. Excess and waste has been eliminated across all budgets for a more efficient county government.
Economic Growth and Development is an ongoing project for the County. Through the use of FEMA funds for road and bridge work to the implementation of a Hotel/Motel tax to be used for the advertisement of Hill County, the Court is creating an environment that encourages businesses to locate here and individuals to visit or move to Hill County.
Furthermore, I have reached out to the cities within Hill County to join efforts in attracting new business. In this pursuit I have become a member of the Heart of Texas Economic Development District and a member of the Executive Board of the Heart of Texas Work Force Commission in order to find more opportunities for Hill County.
Now, I will renew all 3 of those pledges- Open Government, Fiscal Responsibility, and Economic Growth and Development.
Thank you for your support and vote in the Republican Primary.
